Always dreamed of getting married abroad?
We would not be the "travelling" wedding if we could not give you the BEST advice for your destination wedding in Europe.
Especially for those not living in Europe it can be a hassle to arrange everything for you and all your guests. Are you dreaming of a wedding among the olive trees, on the beach, with a vineyard as your backdrop, or perhaps in a castle? Do you want to organise a weekend abroad with family and friends to celebrate love and life? We can make that dream come true! Of course, there’s a lot to consider when organizing your wedding—from choosing the location to arranging everything for your guests. That’s why we’re excited to share 5 tips to help you organise your destination wedding smoothly and stress-free!
Start with Finding Your Dream Location (+check all the terms and conditions!)
The location is everything! Your destination wedding begins with the question: where do you actually want to get married? Italy, Spain, Greece… or maybe a tropical island? There are so many options, so you’ve definitely got some choices to make. It’s important to select a place that matches your style and suits your guests.
Think about what kind of wedding you want. Will it be an intimate gathering with just close family, or do you want a big party with 100+ guests? Where will your guests be travelling from? What style do you prefer? Locations in Spain have a different charm than those in Italy, and even within Italy, a wedding venue in Puglia is not the same as one in Tuscany. Check out our portfolio for some inspiration.
With our location scouting, we’ll help you find the perfect spot for your dream wedding. We ensure you not only choose the “prettiest place” but also one that’s feasible! We manage all the contract details and provide you with a comprehensive roadmap for the rest of your wedding planning!
Set a Realistic Budget
To be able to stay within a budget it is. necessary to discuss the total budget before you start planning. Consider all the aspects of a wedding and do some research on general costs. Think about suppliers like: lighting & sound, photographer/ videographer, flowers/styling, stationery, entertainment, venue, and catering. Be mindful of “hidden costs” like local taxes or extra fees for suppliers (like travel costs if you’re bringing someone from the Netherlands to Italy).
If you’re feeling a bit lost, we can assist you with our brainstorming session! We’ll help you plan your budget wisely and make smart choices that align with your financial plans, as well as consider potential alternatives.
Create a Wedding Website
This is a super useful way for you to gather all the information in one place for your guests. That way, you won’t have to respond to countless texts or emails with questions, but can just direct them to your wedding website. On this website, you can share information such as travel details (like which airport is closest to the venue), hotel recommendations (and any discounts for that hotel), dress codes (including inspiration photos), the wedding schedule so everyone knows what time everything is happening, gift suggestions, and even a lovely story about you two!
Work with Local Suppliers
When organising a wedding abroad, it’s smart to collaborate with local suppliers. They know the area, the culture, and the rules, and can tell you exactly what’s possible (and what’s not). Local suppliers probably have experience working at your wedding venue as well. Tip: ask the venue if they have recommendations for suppliers they like to work with. Some venues only work with certain suppliers.
Additionally, we want to point out that it can be really beneficial to choose suppliers, like photographers or videographers, who speak the same language as you. This way, you and your guests will feel a bit more at ease. During our brainstorming session, we’ll share tips on how to find reliable suppliers that suit you and what to look out for in quotes and contracts.
If you want to legally get married abroad, Pay Attention!
You might not expect it, but every country has its own rules when it comes to getting married. Some countries have strict requirements, such as needing to stay for a certain period before you can tie the knot, or having to have documents translated or approved.
Make sure you are well-informed about the legal requirements of the country where you want to tie the knot. You’ll often need to hire a translator and arrange certain documents to be signed at the local registry office. If you need help with this process, we’re happy to assist you with our Civil Wedding (LINK) option, so you can enjoy planning without any worries!
Or: Hire a Wedding Planner ;)
We could not, not say it: planning a destination wedding is super fun (that is why it is our job), but it does take a lot of work and time.
